Brooklyn is in New York, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Getting around Brooklyn is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across New York's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

The Steinhardt Conservatory at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden is a mesmerizing glass sanctuary that offers a tranquil escape into a world of diverse plant life and meticulously curated landscapes. The absolute highlight of this architectural gem is the C.V. Starr Bonsai Museum which houses one of the oldest and most extensive collections of miniature trees in the world outside of Japan. Walking through the gallery is a humbling experience as you encounter over four hundred stunning specimens including ancient Japanese white pines and gnarled Rocky Mountain junipers that have been trained over centuries to embody the spirit of the wild. The collection showcases an incredible variety of species from delicate Japanese maples with vibrant seasonal foliage to hardy cedars and tropical elms all displayed in traditional styles like the windswept and forest forms. Every tree tells a story of patience and artistic resilience with some being well over a hundred years old and still thriving in their original containers. Whether you are admiring the tiny needles of a centuries old conifer or the intricate branching of a flowering apricot this conservatory provides a profound connection to the nat

The rooms of the conservatory aren't particularly big - just enough to make one small circle. As such, it can get somewhat crowded when a group wants to see a particular flower and block the road. I appreciate all the designs of the rooms - the thorns of the desert room are quite pointy. A room full of bonsai is always fun to revisit every few years. The pond lilies are a bit far away, would like a way to get closer to them - perhaps an elevated platform

Like traveling through a portal to a different part of the world. The amount of different plant species here reminds you of how much biodiversity is in the world outside of the city. Great place to walk around with tourists or locals

Lost my GD MIND nerding out over all the plants, especially in the aquatic and tropical conservatories. Took allll the photos, an actual stupid amount. Warm place on a chilly day, too.

A collection of greenhouses housing plants that are less suited for the New York climate, including a bonsai collection, a tropical plants collection, and a desert plant/cactus collection. As of late April 2021 the greenhouses are still closed to the public due to COVID, but you can still partially view these collections through the glass, it's like window shopping, but with botany instead.
